About Designers For Africa
Designers4Africa is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization is made by the group of designers, businesses, artists, musicians and authors that want to do more in the fight to end global poverty. We aim to do this by donating ( four items min. yearly ) to non profits for their charity auctions. This way we will help non profits raise much needed funds…most of us here are involved in charitable giving, however, we all know in our industry there are loads of samples and extras. This is a way to put them to the best use possible!
The mission of designers4africa is to make a positive impact by helping non profits involved in Africa get more items for their charity auctions.
We aim to do this by simply asking designers, businesses & authors to agree to donate four items yearly to non profits we will list. As a group we can make a huge difference for non profit organizations like The Invisible Children (Scott & Fiona Wolfe clinic fund for Gulu) & Drop in the Bucket (building wells in Uganda) Both working in Uganda which has been in the midst of the most horrendous humanitarian atrocities known!
Before having the 501(C)3 we connected our talents and sources to an org. Drop in the Bucket…. We got author Judy Bernstein THEY POURED FIRE ON US FROM THE SKY to donate a book club type reading as well as she has consulted with DITB on many projects… We brought our friend Dep Tauny of South Sudan to 2009 DITB fundraiser as a speaker…We got dozens of jewelry designers to donate three years in a row…We connected a well known artist to them… April Star Davis did custom jewelry in 2007 for the Dixie Chicks for the special gift bag DITB gifted them….. John Travis was instrumental in emails and phone calls guiding CEO A. Davis in forming her own registered 501(3)C , and as a result of Aprils trip to Uganda in 2009 (paid for with her own funds) she got a reliable Ugandan to form the Ugandan Branch of DITB… Now after (once again self funded) getting federally approved TAX EXEMPT Status DESIGNERS4AFRICA is now a registered federally approved 501(C)3!
The track record is proven the efforts have always been to get funds where needed the best way possible & because of that goal April found it necessary to become a federally approved charity. Now we look forward to bringing together goods and services from all businesses from our core group of designers to artists, musicians, and any business that would like to donate goods/services that we auction off to then fund projects both here in the USA and in Africa… We are a UNIQUE org in that we focus on helping refugees within the USA thru resettlement projects, holiday toy drives and education.
